Beef Gyudon Rice Cooker (best lazy 20 minute dinner!

If you love dump and cook recipes, this Bef Gyudon Rice Cooker is the best 20 minute dinner you will ever make. It is all cooked in the rice cooker which makes clean up a breeze. If you can press a button, you can make this!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups rice rinsed
  • 200 g thinly sliced beef shabu-shabu or hot pot beef
  • ½ onion thinly sliced
  • 1-¼ cups water
  • ½ cup dashi liquid concentrate or instant dashi mixed as directed
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoon mirin
  • Salt + pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: chopped green onions pickled ginger (beni shoga), or onsen eggs

Method
 

  1. Rinse rice until water runs clear; add to the rice cooker pot.
    2 cups rice
  2. Layer onion over the rice.
    ½ onion
  3. Lay beef slices on top (don’t mix yet).
    200 g thinly sliced beef
  4. In a bowl, whisk water, dashi, soy sauce, mirin, salt & pepper.
    1-¼ cups water, ½ cup dashi liquid concentrate, ¼ cup soy sauce, 4 tablespoon mirin, Salt + pepper
  5. Pour sauce evenly over beef + rice.
  6. Close the rice cooker lid and hit Cook.
  7. Once done, fluff everything together and serve hot.
  8. Serve with onsen eggs - boil water, add ⅔ cup of cold water and remove from heat. Place the eggs carefully and let it cook for 18 minutes. Remove and serve.
    Optional toppings: chopped green onions

Notes

  • Always rinse rice. Makes it fluffy, never mushy.
  • Serve with onsen eggs - optional but highly recommended.
