Ingredients

  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef I use the pre-sliced shabu shabu beef from Costco, see notes
  • ¼ cup teriyaki sauce I use Bachan's
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili crunch I use Momofuku mild (perfect for kids)
For serving
  • cooked rice
  • corn, salad or crunchy greens or whatever veggies
  • green onions
  • sesame seeds

Equipment

Method

  1. In a large bowl, add the beef slices, teriyaki sauce, honey, sesame oil, and chili crunch. Mix until every slice is coated. No resting, no marinating.
1 pound thinly sliced beef, ¼ cup teriyaki sauce, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 tablespoon chili crunch
  2. Heat a large pan or skillet over high heat. Add the beef in an even layer and pan fry for 5 minutes, letting it sear and the sauce caramelize. Stir once or twice, but let it sit long enough to get color.
  3. Serve over rice, corn or salad, green onions, and sesame seeds.
cooked rice, green onions, sesame seeds, corn, salad or crunchy greens

Notes

Shabu shabu beef is paper-thin pre-sliced beef, usually ribeye or chuck. Costco carries it in the meat section, and any thinly sliced hot pot beef works. High heat is key, don't be scared. Adjust the chili crunch up or down to control the heat, I used the mild for my kids.
