This delicious Asian steak bites recipe has been a family favorite for many years. It is extremely easy to make and it comes together in just 25 minutes, so it's perfect for a busy weeknight meal.
The juicy steak bites are coated in a flavorful Asian-inspired sauce that's salty, garlicky, spicy, a little sweet, and gingery – so it's everything you want plus more. Each strip has a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a slightly sweet, savory flavor close to teriyaki sauce that is simply irresistible and out of this world!
You have probably eaten tons of garlic steak bites in the past, but this Asian steak bites recipe is different and so much better. I guarantee you'll love it, especially its best part – the crust. The steak bites are given a nice sear, and then simmered in flavorful soy-based sauce to really coat the steak and infuse all the umami flavors. The end result is absolutely satisfying!
5 Reasons Why I Love this Asian Steak Bites Recipe
It's obvious that I love this recipe, but let me give you 5 reasons why I think it's the best Asian steak bites recipe ever:
- Great way to feed a large family. I used 2 striploins and I was able to feed my family of 4. Since it was cut into smaller cubes, it was easier to portion and extend the pieces of steak per person. I focused on the sides.
- Big flavor without the fuss. The flavors are big and bold, but the recipe is actually quite simple. NO NEED TO MARINATE. Just sear, sauce, and eat!
- Great for get-togethers or special occasions. It has the “wow” factor that will impress everyone without slaving in the kitchen for hours. You can keep it as a main dish or cut the steaks into smaller pieces and turn them into an appetizer or a side dish. If you have tons of people coming over, this recipe can also be easily doubled or tripled. Note that you should reduce cooking time if you are cutting them into bite-sized pieces.
- Minimal equipment required. This is a one-pot meal. All you need is a skillet, a wok, or a grill pan. No need for special equipment.
- Great leftovers. The sauce keeps the steak moist and juicy, so it reheats really well. I like to make a big batch and then have leftovers for lunch during the week. Quickly pan fry (1-2 minutes on high), microwave, or my favorite way to reheat – AIR FRY!
Ingredients and Substitutions
- New York strip steak – I highly recommend using New York strip steak for this recipe because it's relatively lean and tender and has a great flavor. However, you can use other cuts of beef such as ribeye steak, flank steak, filet mignon, and beef tenderloin. Sirloin steak bites would be a good steak for this recipe as well.
- Aromatics – Ginger, garlic, and green onions are crucial. They give so much flavor to this recipe and all other recipes.
- Butter – Butter makes everything better. I always like to use butter when cooking steak because it adds a nice richness and flavor.
- Soy sauce – Use tamari if you are gluten-free.
- Oyster sauce – Vegetarian oyster sauce would also work.
- Sweetener – You can use honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup, but I used white sugar.
- Baking soda – This ingredient might seem a bit strange, but it's actually key in tenderizing the steak.
- Red chili (optional) – Jalapeno would be great in this too, but the red chili gives it a nice color. You can use chili sauce or chili paste if it's all you have on hand.
- Salt and black pepper
- Avocado oil – This is for searing the steak. Use whatever neutral oil you have, but do NOT use olive oil.
Equipment
- Large skillet or wok or Cast-iron skillet
- Large tongs
- Large mixing bowl
- Serving dish
What to serve with Asian Steak Bites
Here are my favorite sides to serve with this dish.
- Plain Jasmine rice: My favorite! The steak bites are already so flavorful, a nice bowl of white rice should do the trick.
- Mushroom Fried Rice: The flavors of this fried rice go so well with the sauce.
- Garlic Fried Rice: Another fantastic option that goes great with the garlicky butter flavor of steak bites.
- Air Fried Green Beans: These make for the perfect side dish!
- Cauliflower Rice: Another low-carb option that goes well with the steak bites.
- Asian Zucchini Noodles: A healthier alternative to rice.

Instructions
- Make sure your steak is at room temperature. Cut your steaks into 2" cubes.

- On medium heat, add the butter, ginger, garlic, and green onions and saute until fragrant. Add the oyster sauce and sugar.
- Add back the steak bites and saute for 3-4 minutes on medium-high heat. Mixing well to make sure everything is covered in the sauce.
- For tender steak bites, rest it for 3-5 minutes.
