Bang bang sauce is a simple mix of mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha and lime that comes together in one bowl with zero cooking involved. No marinating, no simmering, no waiting around for anything to reduce.
I have made this so many times in my kitchen that I do not even measure anymore, but I tested the exact ratios below more times than I want to admit so you get it right on the first try. My boys dunk everything in this, and I mean everything, from crispy shrimp to broccoli they would otherwise refuse to eat.
This is the kind of sauce that makes a weeknight dinner feel like takeout without the takeout bill. Keep the ratio in your head as 2 parts mayo, 1 part sweet chili sauce, and a small amount of sriracha, a little bit of lime and you can scale it without measuring at all.

This is the only mayo I use.
- I only use Kewpie mayo. Make sure you only buy "made from Japan" the USA version is not as good.

Bang Bang Sauce
Ingredients
Method
- Add the mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha and lime juice to a small bowl.½ cup mayo, ¼ cup sweet chili sauce, 1 tablespoon sriracha, juice of half a lime
- Whisk or stir until completely smooth and evenly combined, about 30 seconds.
- Taste and adjust. Add more sriracha for heat or more sweet chili sauce if you want it sweeter.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.
Notes
- Use a whisk for a smooth, glossy texture. It tastes even better after an hour in the fridge. Keeps 7 to 10 days chilled. If it splits, a small splash of water and a quick whisk brings it back. Do not freeze, mayo-based sauces separate when thawed.

What is bang bang sauce made of? Bang bang sauce is made of mayo, sweet chili sauce, lime juice and sriracha whisked together until smooth. Some versions add honey for extra sweetness, but the classic three-ingredient version is all you need for that signature sweet, spicy, and creamy flavor.
What does bang bang sauce taste like? Bang bang sauce tastes sweet, spicy, and creamy all at once, with a tangy edge from the mayo. The sweet chili sauce brings the sugar and mild tang, while the sriracha adds heat and a garlicky depth underneath.
Is bang bang sauce the same as Bonefish Grill's bang bang shrimp sauce? Yes, this is the same style of sauce popularized by Bonefish Grill's bang bang shrimp appetizer. Restaurants often add a touch of honey or Thai chili sauce to their versions, but the mayo, sweet chili, and sriracha base is essentially the same.
How do I make bang bang sauce spicier? Add an extra 1 to 2 teaspoons of sriracha, or stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. Start small and taste as you go since the heat builds quickly once you go past the original tablespoon.
Can I make bang bang sauce without mayo? Yes, plain Greek yogurt is the best swap if you want to skip mayo entirely. It gives you a similar creamy texture with a tangier finish, though it will taste noticeably less rich than the classic version.
How long does bang bang sauce last in the fridge? Bang bang sauce lasts 7 to 10 days in the fridge when stored in an airtight container. Since it is mayo based, keep it cold and give it a stir before each use if it separates slightly.
Is bang bang sauce the same thing as bang bang chicken? No, bang bang chicken is a completely different, much older dish from Sichuan made with a cold, sesame-based sauce. The mayo and sriracha bang bang sauce most people make today is a newer Western invention that only shares the name.
