Substitutions
Salted Butter:
- Unsalted butter: If you prefer to control the saltiness of your recipe.
- Margarine: A dairy-free option if you're avoiding butter.
- Sesame Oil: Adds a hint of sesame flavor and works well in no-bake recipes.
Black Sesame Seeds:
- White sesame seeds: If you don't have black sesame seeds on hand, white sesame seeds can be used as a substitute.
- Poppy seeds: While not the same flavor, they can add a similar visual appeal and texture.
Marshmallows:
- Marshmallow fluff: Can be used as a substitute for whole marshmallows, especially if you want a smoother texture.
- Vegan marshmallows: Suitable if you're following a vegan diet or prefer a gelatin-free option.
Rice Krispies Cereal:
- Any crispy rice cereal: Generic or store-brand versions of crispy rice cereal will work just fine.
- Cornflakes: If you don't have rice cereal, cornflakes can be a suitable substitute for a different texture.
Toasted Sesame Oil:
- Regular sesame oil would work perfectly.
Optional: If you want a nutty flavor, try adding 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter! It'll match the ingredients very well.

Top tips for success
- Prep Your Ingredients Beforehand: Before you start cooking, make sure all your ingredients are measured and prepared. This recipe comes together quickly.
- Use Low Heat When Melting Marshmallows: When melting the marshmallows with the butter, use low heat and stir continuously. High heat can cause the marshmallows to burn quickly, resulting in a less-than-desirable texture for your treats.
- Oil your spatula: Apply a thin layer of oil to your spatula to avoid sticking.
