What you need for the best philly cheese steak
Striploin steaks - you can use ribeye or sirloin. I used New York striploin.
King’s Hawaiin Sweet Rolls - these are the best rolls for making sliders. Feel free to sus other slider buns.
Green bell peppers - this is what the classic sandwich calls for therefore use it to get that traditional taste.
Yellow onion - this is also a staple for this dish.
Provolone cheese slices - The best cheese for philly cheesesteak is Provolone. You will need a great melty cheese for this recipe. Mozzarella or American cheese would work, but I really loved the Provolone in this recipe.
Mayonnaise - This is part of the sauce. Suppose mayonnaise isn’t for you. Try making an aioli. It will take longer to make.
Horseradish - Adds a lovely kick to your sandwich. A definite must.
Butter - melted butter is brushed on the sweet rolls while baking.

How to make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
- Prep your ingredients. Julienne the onion and green bell peppers and set aside.
- Season the steaks with salt.
- In a cast iron pan, place 2 tablespoon of avocado oil (any neutral oil). Once hot, sear your steaks until medium rare. 3-4 minutes each. Rest for 10 minutes.
- In the same pan, add the onion and green bell peppers. Add water and cover with a lid. The steam will cook down the onion and bell peppers more quicker. 5 minutes.
- Uncover the pan and let the liquid cook down. Cook the vegetable to your liking.
- Slice the steaks into thin pieces.
- Start assembling the sliders. Slice the rolls in half.
- Combine the mayonnaise and horseradish. Spread it all over the top and bottom of the sliders.
- Place 4 slices of cheese on the bottom part. Layer it with green bell pepper and onion mixture. Then the steak and cheese.
- Bake it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
TIPS and Notes
- Adding water while sauteeing the vegetables will speed up the cooking process. The steam will cook down the onions.
- You can pre-cut the steak before cooking or cook it like a steak, then slice it. I have done both, and it is quicker to pre-cut the steak. You do you!
- Season as you go. This recipe doesn't require a ton of seasonings, so salt and pepper generously.

With or without green bell peppers, I love it! The hater commenter can just remove it if they don't want to instead of ranting about it. LOL! 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
Sean says
There are no green peppers on cheesesteaks and there never has been as a Philadelphian we are all wildly confused as how this became a thing.

That sucks. I see it everywhere.

Agreed! From Philly here, born & raised...green peppers are not on an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. 😒😔Regardless of it being seen everywhere, that doesn't make it right (or wrong), but it should be called something else. 😉 I'll try the recipe (w/o the green peppers!).
